Transmission & ENgine Tuning

Optimize power delivery, shift quality, and drivability for street, towing, and race applications.

Introduction to Transmission & Engine Tuning Services

DBOYSCUSTOMS LLC offers professional transmission and engine tuning services that optimize power delivery, shift quality, and drivability for both street and race applications. We tune engines for fuel and ignition performance and calibrate transmissions to handle increased torque, adjust shift behavior, and maintain durability under stress.

Our services include torque management adjustments, shift schedule optimization, line pressure tuning, and engine rev-limits and protections

Why Transmission & Engine Tuning Matter

When you increase engine power, the transmission must adapt to transmit that power reliably. Factory transmission calibrations often limit torque to protect components.

Performance tuning unlocks this potential by safely adjusting torque management, shift timing, and pressure curves to improve responsiveness and reliability. Similarly, engine tuning refines ignition timing, fueling, cam timing, and rev-limits to match hardware upgrades — preventing detonation, ensuring safe AFRs, and improving power across the rev range.

Our Process

How DBOYSCUSTOMS Tunes Transmission & Engines

Our approach combines careful analysis, logging, and iterative testing:

1

Intake Assessment

We gather vehicle specs, modifications, and performance goals. Identify transmission type, gear ratios, and target torque.

2

Mechanical Inspection

Ensure transmission health — fluid condition, torque converter, clutches, and solenoids. Fluid and filter service may be required prior to tuning.

3

Baseline Data & Dyno Testing

Capture factory behavior to create a baseline for improvements and safety targets.

4

Engine Mapping

Refine ignition tables, fueling, cam phasing (if applicable), and rev-limits. Advanced calibrations include transient fueling for throttle tip-in and tip-out.

5

Transmission Calibration

Adjust shift points, upshift/downshift logic, clutch fill times, line pressure, and torque intervention strategies to match engine torque.

6

Integrated Validation

Perform coordinated dyno pulls and road testing to ensure transmission and engine changes work cohesively.

7

Finalization

Deliver documented maps and recommended vehicle operating procedures (fuel, temp thresholds, service intervals).

Transmission & Torque Management

Modern Dodge transmissions rely on torque management to protect drivetrains. When increasing torque with a tune, calibration changes to the transmission ECU are necessary for safe operations. We tune shifts, torque converters, and pressure strategies to reduce slippage and harshness while optimizing performance.

Diagnostics & Pre-Tune Requirements

Before we tune, components must be inspected to ensure they can handle desired power. Transmission slippage, worn clutches, or fluid contamination are addressed first. We will recommend mechanical repairs or upgrades if necessary to achieve safe, repeatable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will increasing line pressure cause premature wear?

Moderate increases in line pressure to account for higher torque are necessary to prevent slippage. We balance pressure increases with acceptable mechanical stress and recommend clutch upgrades if extreme pressure is needed.

  • Can you tune both engine and transmission during one session?

Yes. Coordinated tuning is recommended for best results. Simultaneous calibration reduces drivability issues and ensures shift behavior matches engine output.

  • What if my transmission is slipping?

Slippage must be diagnosed and repaired. We won’t apply aggressive calibrations to a slipping transmission because that increases risk for catastrophic failure. We provide repair recommendations and retune once the mechanical issue is resolved.
